Mele Fong aka Ukulele Mele tells the story behind the Hawaiian song Hawaiian War Chant. The original song titled “Kaua I Ka Huahuai or We Two in the Spray” was written in the 1860s and describes two palace lovers who met in secret. In 1936, composer Johnny Noble borrowed the melody, left the original Hawaiian lyrics, Ralph Freed added English lyrics, and the song was named “Hawaiian War Chant.”
