Mele Fong aka Ukulele Mele tells the story behind the hapa haole song On The Beach at Waikiki. Published in 1915, the song was first performed at the Pan-Pacific International Exposition in San Francisco and became the best seller of all Hawaiian songs. It made Waikiki famous and ushered in Hawaii’s early tourism industry.
