This traditional Hawaiian song was composed by Queen Liliuokalani during the nine months she was imprisoned at Iolani Palace after the overthrow of the monarchy in 1893. One day, a basket arrived with flowers that grew at Paoakalani, her home in Waikiki. The Queen was so inspired that she wrote this song and dedicated it to the boy who brought the basket to her.
