Ukulele Friend and Kealakai Center for Pacific Strings present “A Century of Hawaiian Strings: A Historical ‘Ukulele and Guitar Concert”

Come and join us as we take a journey into the world of Hawaiian music, the evolution of string instrument development in Hawaii and the impact of Hawaiian music on the world. ‘Ukulele Friend and the Kealakai Center for Pacific Strings invites you to listen, learn, and enjoy the history and music by some of Hawaii’s foremost musicians as they share their mele, or music, on historial Hawaiian ‘ukulele and guitars dating between 1884-1920.

Instruments: On loan from ‘Ukulele Friend. Historical ‘ukulele and guitars that date between 1884-1920 will be played at the concert. Many of these instruments are considered the first generation of ‘ukulele handcrafted in Hawaii by luthiers, Augusto Dias, Manuel Nunes, and Jose do Espirito Santo. In addition, a few historical guitars such as Kamaka guitars and Nunes guitars will also be played at the concert.
