This hapa haole song (Hawaiian style music with English words) has a soft jazzy feel. Published in 1934, the song was written by R. Alex Anderson, the most prolific composer in the hapa haole genre. Although Anderson never studied music and could not speak Hawaiian, he left behind a legacy of more than 200 songs when he died in 1995. Born in Honolulu in 1894, Anderson graduated from Punahou School and even wrote the school’s song.
