This traditional Hawaiian song was written by Ellen Wright Prendergast in 1893. It means famous are the flowers and is a protest song that opposes the annexation of Hawai‘i to the United States. In 1998, the song Kaulana Na Pua was inducted into the Hawaiian Music Hall of Fame, the non-profit corporation established in 1994 that honors individuals, groups, institutions, chanters, and songs.
