Mele Fong & her husband Richard Tom – The Hawaiian Serenaders – sing and play Auld Lang Syne on ukulele and u-bass over photos of past New Year’s Eve celebrations on the mainland and Maui (words below) #playuke #ukulelepop #ukulelemusic
Mele’s arrangement of Auld Lang Syne is in C with Pick in 4 Strum for ‘ukulele.
This popular song is based on a poem published by Robert Burns with music attributed to an 18th century Scottish ballad. The phrase “auld lang syne” translated literally means “old long since” but in English refers to reminiscing the old days with old friends. From 1929-1976, first on radio and then on television, big band leader Guy Lombardo and the Royal Canadians played “Auld Lang Syne” to ring in the new year. It became THE tradition around the world to say farewell to the old year and to close other occasions.

Should auld acquaintance be forgot and never brought to mind?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot and days of auld lang syne?
For auld lang syne, my dear, for auld lang syne
We’ll take a cup of kindness yet for auld lang syne.
And surely you’ll buy your pint cup and surely I’ll buy mine
We’ll take a cup of kindness yet for days of auld lang syne.
For auld lang syne, my dear, for auld lang syne
We’ll take a cup of kindness yet for auld lang syne.
We two have run about the hills and picked the daisies fine
We’ve wandered many a weary foot since days of auld lang syne.
For auld lang syne, my dear, for auld lang syne
We’ll take a cup of kindness yet for auld lang syne.
We too have paddled in the stream from morning sun ’till dine
But seas between us broad have roared since days of auld lang syne.
For auld lang syne, my dear, for auld lang syne
We’ll take a cup of kindness yet for auld lang syne.
And there’s a hand my trusty friend, and give me a hand o’ thine
We’ll take a right goodwill draught for days of auld lang syne.
For auld lang syne, my dear, for auld lang syne
We’ll take a cup of kindness yet for auld lang syne.
We’ll take a cup of kindness yet for auld lang syne.
