Mele Fong and her husband Richard Tom – The Hawaiian Serenaders – sing and play When the Red, Red Robin Comes Bob, Bob Bobbin’ Along on ‘ukulele and u-bass over photos of Rich’s birthday and reunions with classmates and friends (words below). #playuke #ukulelemusic
Mele’s arrangement of the song is in C with I Wanna Chuck Strum for ‘ukulele.
This popular song inspired the name of the casual dining restaurant chain Red Robin as the owner of the original restaurant in the University District of Seattle, Washington, sang in a barbershop quartet which frequently sang the song, and in the 1940s renamed his restaurant “Sam’s Red Robin.” Written in 1926, the most successful recording that year was by Al Jolson.

When the red, red robin comes bob, bob bobbin’ along, along
There’ll be no more sobbin’ when he starts throbbin’ his old sweet song
Wake up, wake up you sleepy head
Get up, get up get out of bed
Cheer up, cheer up the sun is red
Live, love, laugh and be happy
What if I’ve been blue, now I’m walking through fields of flowers
Rain my glisten but still I listen for hours and hours
I’m just a kid again doing what I did again, I’m singing a song
When the red, red robin comes bob, bob bobbin’ along.
(Repeat from the top two more times)
No one here can love or understand me
Oh what hard luck stories they all hand me
What if I’ve been blue, now I’m walking through fields of flowers
Rain my glisten but still I listen for hours and hours
I’m just a kid again doing what I did again, I’m singing a song
When the red, red robin comes bob, bob bobbin’ along.
(Fade out)
When the red, red robin comes bob, bob bobbin’ along.
When the red, red robin comes bob, bob bobbin’ along.
When the red, red robin comes bob, bob bobbin’ along.
