Mele Fong and her husband Richard Tom – The Hawaiian Serenaders – sing and play Here Comes Peter Cottontail on ukulele and u-bass over photos of Easter egg hunts on the mainland and on Maui and more (words below). #playuke #ukulelemusic
Mele’s arrangement of Here Comes Peter Cottontail is in F with Hum Ding-Ah Strum for ‘ukulele.
This popular children’s song finally gave a name to the Easter bunny. Steve Nelson and Jack Rollins wrote the song in 1949 and later wrote non-Easter lyrics to the tune. Gene Autry’s 1950 version peaked at Number 3 on the U.S. Billboard Hot Country Singles Chart and at Number 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart.

Hippity hoppity, Happy Easter Day!
Here comes Peter Cottontail, hoppin’ down the bunny trail
Hippity hoppin’ Easter’s on its way
Bringing every girl and boy, baskets full of Easter joy
Things to make your Easter bright and gay
He’s got jelly beans for Tommy
Colored eggs for sister Sue
There’s an orchid for your mommy
And an Easter bonnet too, oh!
Here comes Peter Cottontail, hoppin’ down the bunny trail
Hippity hoppin’ Easter’s on its way
Try to do the things you should, maybe if you’re extra good
He’ll roll lots of Easter eggs your way
You’ll wake up on Easter morning
And you’ll know that he was there
When you find those chocolate bunnies
That he’s hiding ev’rywhere, Oh!
(Repeat from top)
Here come Peter Cottontail, hoppin’ down the bunny trail
Hippity hoppity, Happy Easter Day
