Mele’s arrangement of the medley is in Am and C with I Wanna Chuck Strum and Hum Ding-Ah Strum for ‘ukulele.

This medley combines two popular songs about summertime. “Summertime” was composed by Dubose Howard and George Gershwin in 1934 for the 1935 opera Porgy and Bess and is a much-recorded jazz standard in a minor key. “In The Good Old Summertime” was written by Ren Shields and George Evans in 1902 in ¾ time, but we arranged it in an upbeat 4/4 time.

SUMMERTIME
Summertime, and the living is easy
Fish are jumping and the cotton is high
Oh your daddy’s rich and your mama’s good lookin’
So hush, little baby, don’t you cry.

One of these mornings you’re gonna rise up singing
You’re gonna spread your wings and take to the sky
But ’til that morning ain’t nothing can harm you
With daddy and mammy standing by.

(Repeat song from top)
With daddy and mammy standing by.

IN THE GOOD OLD SUMMERTIME
In the good old summertime, in the good old summertime
Strolling down a shady lane with your baby mine
You hold her hand and she holds yours
And that’s a very good sign
That she’s your tootsie wootsie in the good old summertime.

(Repeat this song 2 more times)
End: In the good old summertime.
