Before we start the day in Hilo on the bid island of Hawaii we stop by Ken’s House of Pancakes to fill up! We should have come here every day that we were In Hilo. Everything on the menu sounded good and the meals that passed by our table were awesome.
We decided to get the Loco Moco and Banana’s Foster Pancakes. We each ate half and swapped plates. That allows us to sample more of the food without eating too much.
Both dishes were flavorful and delicious. The coffee was hot and plentiful with the full carafe left on the table. Tremendous service and great food will make us head right over first thing when visiting Hilo.
Ken’s House of Pancakes has a long and interesting history in Hilo, Hawaii. The restaurant was first opened in 1971 by Ken and Barbara Hashimoto, who had previously owned a bakery in Hilo. The Hashimotos wanted to create a restaurant that served classic American breakfast and diner-style food, and they decided to name it Ken’s House of Pancakes.
The restaurant quickly became a local favorite, known for its large portions and affordable prices. Over the years, Ken’s House of Pancakes has become a Hilo institution, serving generations of locals and visitors alike.
In 1994, Ken and Barbara Hashimoto sold the restaurant to their son, Brian Hashimoto, who has continued to run it with the same commitment to quality and value that his parents established. Under Brian’s leadership, the restaurant has expanded its menu to include a wider variety of dishes while still maintaining its focus on classic American breakfast and diner-style food.
Today, Ken’s House of Pancakes is a landmark in Hilo, known not only for its delicious food but also for its friendly and welcoming atmosphere. The restaurant continues to be a family-owned and operated business, with Brian Hashimoto and his family taking pride in serving their community and visitors to the island of Hawaii.
