Timelapse showing rise of Halema‘uma‘u crater floor - lanikai-beach.net
This timelapse sequence shows activity in Halema‘uma‘u, at the summit of Kīlauea, from March to August. The video shows the rise of the crater floor due to lava supplied beneath the surface crust, lifting the crater floor in an “endogenous” process. In addition, lava flows erupt sporadically and resurface portions of the crater floor. USGS […]
Rise of the Halema‘uma‘u crater floor - lanikai-beach.net
This timelapse sequence shows one image per day over the past two months from the B1cam webcam on the east rim of Halema‘uma‘u, at the summit of Kīlauea. The images show that the floor of Halema‘uma‘u has been growing endogenously. Lava is supplied beneath the solidified crust that forms the surface of the crater floor, […]
29 March 2022– Kīlauea volcano, spattering within Halema‘uma‘u crater - lanikai-beach.net
This video, captured by a webcam on the northwest rim of Kīlauea caldera of March 29, 2022, shows spattering from a cone that has developed on the crater surface in the eastern part of Halema‘uma‘u. The presence of these features demonstrates that molten material is present beneath the solidified surface of the crater floor. Video: […]
Eruptive activity in Halema‘uma‘u crater—October 12, 2021 - lanikai-beach.net
Eruptive activity continues at the west vent in Halema‘uma‘u crater, at the summit of Kīlauea. When this video was taken on October 12, a small subordinate vent was present on the north side of the main fountaining vent. The main fountaining source was supplying lava into the lake via a short spillway. Video: https://www.usgs.gov/media/videos/eruptive-activity-halema-uma-u-crater-october-12-2021
Kīlauea summit eruption in Halemaʻumaʻu crater – west vent – October 4, 2021 - lanikai-beach.net
The eruption continues in Halema‘uma‘u crater, at the summit of Kīlauea. This video shows the dominant fountain at the west vent, from two different angles, as well as the smaller fountaining source emerging through the lava lake. 0 Telephoto videos capture fissure activity within Halema‘uma‘u crater on December 22, 2020, at approximately 3:35 PM HST. (1) The first video shows the main northern fissure. The lava fountains have built up a horseshoe-shaped spatter cone (dark in color) around the perimeter of the vent. (2) 2) The second video shows the smaller western […]
Water appears in Halemaʻumaʻu – Kīlauea Volcano – lanikai-beach
USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory scientists Matt Patrick and Jim Kauahikaua talk about the water that appeared at the bottom of Halemaʻumaʻu, a crater at the summit of Kīlauea Volcano, in July 2019 and continues to rise today. They address why it appeared, how it’s monitored, and its potential hazards. Contact: askhvo@usgs.gov
